01We are profitable, so why are we repeatedly short of cash?
Profit and cash are not the same. Growth may be absorbing cash through inventory, receivables, debt service, capital expenditure, tax obligations or poorly timed payments. The first step is to reconcile profit to cash, build a 13-week liquidity view and identify exactly where cash is trapped or committed.
02Our management accounts arrive late or are not fully reliable. Can you still help?
Yes. Poor records are part of the problem to be solved. The Diagnostic identifies which figures can be trusted, what is missing and what management needs immediately. Your finance function does not have to be perfect before the work starts.
03How do we determine how much capital the company genuinely needs?
The answer should come from your operating plan, cash forecasts, current obligations, the timing of the growth plan and a reasonable safety margin. It should not be a convenient round number. The Diagnostic tests how much you need, what it will fund, how it will be repaid or earn a return, and what evidence a funder will expect.
04How do we know whether we are ready to approach banks, DFIs or equity investors?
A pitch deck is not enough. Funders will review your past performance, cash generation, forecasts, governance, legal structure, management team, risks, valuation or repayment capacity, and data room. Femi identifies the gaps and sets out what must be fixed before you approach them.
05Do you introduce companies directly to lenders and investors?
Where there is a credible mandate and a suitable opportunity, Femi can support funder mapping, materials, management preparation, engagement and transaction finance work. No adviser can responsibly guarantee funding. The company must first demonstrate commercial credibility and investment readiness.
06Can you help a company operating across several entities or countries?
Yes. Multi-entity work focuses on consolidated performance, intercompany balances, liquidity by entity and currency, capital allocation, reporting consistency and the decisions that must remain local versus group-wide.
07How can we manage FX exposure when revenue and obligations are in different currencies?
The work begins by mapping contractual and operational currency exposures, timing mismatches and natural hedges. Management can then compare pricing, matching, reserve, funding and hedging choices against cash impact and risk appetite.
08Our Board receives many numbers but still cannot make clear decisions. What changes?
A Board pack should do more than report what has already happened. It should explain the cash position, changes in the forecast, reasons for major variances, use of capital, risks, available options and the approvals management needs.
09When should a company use a fractional CFO instead of hiring full-time?
Fractional leadership works when the business needs senior judgement, structure and Board support but does not yet require a CFO every working day. A full-time appointment becomes more appropriate when transaction volume, regulation, team size, stakeholder intensity or daily executive demands require permanent presence.
10Can you work with our existing accountant, finance manager, auditor and tax advisers?
Yes. The role is not to displace competent specialists. Femi provides the executive finance layer, clarifies ownership and coordinates the information required for management, Board, capital and performance decisions.
11Can listed, regulated or listing-preparation companies engage you?
Yes, subject to mandate, independence and confidentiality requirements. The work can support finance transformation, reporting readiness, governance, capital planning, transaction preparation and interim leadership while specialist legal, audit, tax and regulatory advisers retain their respective responsibilities.
12What exactly happens during the 10-Day Finance Decision Diagnostic?
Femi interviews the relevant leaders and reviews selected financial and business records. The review covers cash, performance, reporting, the finance team and funding readiness. You receive a written brief showing the main risks, the decisions management must make and a practical 90-day action plan.
13What information must we provide?
Usually: recent management accounts, bank and cash information, budgets or forecasts, debt and funding information, entity structure, Board or investor materials and access to relevant leaders. A tailored request list is issued after the scope is agreed.
14How confidential is the engagement?
Initial conversations are treated discreetly. Before sensitive information is reviewed, the parties agree confidentiality, access and permitted-use terms. Public case material is anonymised unless the organisation gives express approval.
15When do we pay for the Diagnostic?
The application and initial fit conversation are free. Once scope, deliverables and timing are agreed, the Diagnostic fee is paid before the 10-day work begins. Multi-entity assignments may use an agreed deposit and completion milestone.
16What happens after the Diagnostic?
There is no automatic long-term commitment. Leadership may implement the roadmap internally or separately appoint Femi for fractional CFO leadership, capital-raising advisory, finance transformation, an interim mandate or another defined project.
